16 May Watsonlaw welcomes paralegal Marlinde Nannings
Analytical. Thorough. Curious. Eye for detail. Not just for financial law, but also for the regulation of crypto currency. Of course, this requires a unique combination of abstract thinking and a practical approach. It is exactly this combination that we have found in a new talent who joined our crypto team at Watsonlaw on 1 April: Marlinde Nannings.
Marlinde already has an impressive academic track record. Over the last few years, she strengthened the ranks at Radboud University. She researched the regulation of crypto currency in the EU while there and was also a lecturer in financial law. She has a number of publications to her name, which have been published in Tijdschrift voor Financieel Recht (Financial law magazine). Above all, her thesis, ‘Regulering van Initial Coin Offerings. Een raamwerk voor regulering door de kwalificatie van tokens als effect’, (The regulation of initial coin offerings. A framework for regulation through qualifying tokens as securities) has been published as a book. In addition, she won two prizes in 2018/2019. Besides the internet thesis prize from the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen, KHMW), she was also awarded a prize by the Financial Law Association (Vereniging voor Financieel recht, VvFR).
The topic of regulation and crypto currency, and then most especially from an EU perspective, has had an enormous fascination for Marlinde for some time. Even while writing her thesis, she realised that her future lay here. Which is why it comes as no surprise that Marlinde chose Watsonlaw specifically. Here she will have the space to be involved in the birth of new developments, exploring across the board and diving deep when appropriate. This facilitates not just the angle of an academic to identify and research new developments, but to also put them into immediate practice. This appealed to her in the Watsonlaw approach. Switching between the abstraction of the legal side to the more hands-on side of practice makes it very dynamic. She is fascinated by creating value in multiple ways and helping clients achieve their business plans within current regulations. Especially in these times in which the Watsonlaw crypto team are on top of every development. And that in a close-knit team where she already feels at home. Rightly so, we believe. Welcome to the team Marlinde!
